Antiques, Collectibles and “Eclectibles” fill the shelves,  perch on the floor, hang from the ceiling and amaze first-timers around every corner.  This deceivingly large shop, entertaining guests for 15 years, is a secret gem in charming downtown Bonita Springs. The riot of flowers and furniture outside, aptly preview the treasure chest about to unfold:  from dolls and bears and books and fedoras, to boat anchors and lanterns and pottery, and ornaments and Fiesta to fishing poles, and jewelry, the overwhelming inventory and delightful displays make The Mother Load a Sweet Surprise!See The Mother Load facebook page for current acquisitions. HistoryEstablished in 1998. The Mother Load started out on Bonita Beach Rd.18 years ago, and moved to it’s present location in 2000.  Leaving a mundane strip mall, to relocate in this historic, quirky old building was a no brainer! The original template for this unusual concept was actually founded in Milford, Connecticut. There Chris and Muriel established an unconventional gallery/boutique in a  charming Victorian house that boasted crackling fireplaces, a grand staircase, antiques, and the work of over 500 artists and craftspeople! The Mother Load recreates that meandering theme of wandering from room to room discovering treasures along the way. Meet the Business Owner  Christine S.  Business Owner Chris and her mom, Muriel started in business together over 45 years ago in Milford, Conn.  They first founded an in home “party” business, traveling with art, antiques, crafts and props, and much like a Tupperware event, used incentives, hostess gifts and wine and cheese to market their goods.Chris and Muriel traveled all over until they founded a “party house”, and brought the guests and hostesses to them.  Eventually Muriel happened on a lovely old Victorian on the edge of town, and The Sunshine Factory was born.Fast forward many years later, after the women added a tearoom, and then a small restaurant downtown serving breakfast and lunch, it was time for Muriel to slow down and travel a bit…..Hello Estero,Fl!Having sold their businesses in Conn. and tempted by her mom, Chris soon followed to Ft.Myers Bch.,a favorite family vacation destination.Chris found an eccentric thrift store, moved it to a sweet location, & 18 years later, The Mother Load is a local treasure!
